🛑 New FSSAI Compliance Alert: Mandatory Closure Report Submission for Expired Licenses (FY 2024–25)

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), through a directive dated May 16, 2025, has introduced a significant compliance requirement for all Food Business Operators (FBOs) across India. This new order pertains to the mandatory submission of a Closure Report for licenses or registrations that have expired during FY 2024–25.

 

What Is the New Requirement?

If your FSSAI Registration, State License, or Central License expired in the current financial year (2024–25), you are now required to file a Closure Report with FSSAI.

 

Who All are Required to make compliances?

This rule applies to:
1. Small food businesses
2. Medium enterprises
3. Large-scale manufacturers or distributors
4. Anyone holding an FSSAI number that has expired

 

How To File Closure Report?

Filing of Report: Through the FSSAI Compliance System (FoSCoS) Portal

 

What is the Penalty of Non Compliances?

Penalty: If any FBO operating the Food Business on expired FSSAI License/ Registartion shall be treated as violation u/s 31of FSSAI Act, 2006 and shall be leviable for penalty upto Rs 10 Lakhs

 

How We will get Update on This Compliance Requirement?
The FSSAI Authority are sent the emails regarding the “Notice ofr Closure of Food Business” upon the Expiry of the FSSAI License/ Registration

 

What Should the Closure Report Include?
FBOs must clearly indicate one of the following in their report:

1. That no food business activity is being conducted at the premises after license expiry
2. Whether a new FSSAI license has been obtained (with reference number)
3. The reason for non-renewal of the expired license or registration
